Avengers: Endgame Director Addresses Nova Easter Egg Reveal

Earlier this week, Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo went on a video interview to answer different questions about the film. During the discussion with Wired, the directors revealed that Richard Rider, a hero otherwise known to comic book readers as Nova, actually made an appearance in the Avengers: Infinity War sequel.

The filmmakers were asked by a fan why none of the Guardians of the Galaxy's Nova Corp made it in Endgame, and according to Joe and Anthony, the most well-known member of the corp, Richard Rider, was actually among the many heroes in the epic battle between the Avengers and Thanos' (Josh Brolin) army in Endgame.

It turns out that the whole thing was actually a farce. Nova wasn't in Endgame at all.

Speaking in an email interview with ComicBook.com, Joe Russo says that he and his brother were just trolling around when they said that Nova was in the climactic battle of the film.

"That was actually a joke on our part," the filmmaker told the entertainment news outlet.

This is a bit disappointing to hear. Marvel fans were pretty excited to know that the Russos left a Nova Easter Egg in the film, hoping that the cameo meant that the hero would someday be introduced into the Marvel Cosmic Universe.

A member of the intergalactic police force known as the Nova Corps, Richard Rider is a human who gains superhuman abilities like flight, enhanced strength, as well as major resistance to injury. The character was in the earliest drafts of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy though he may have been scrapped so that the focus could be brought on Marvel's actual Guardians.

Avengers: Endgame is available on Digital HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD.
