Ant-Man And The Wasp Could Struggle To Pass Original Movie At The Domestic Box Office

Ant-Man and the Wasp might be getting slightly better reviews from fans and critics compared to the original Ant-Man that premiered in 2015, but it looks like Marvel's final film of the year is going to struggle to top its predecessor at the U.S. Box office.

Forbes just recently released a forecast of Ant-Man and the Wasp's performance at the box office and using weekend multipliers the publication predicts that the Ant-Man sequel could very well end its run with more or less $173 million in the U.S. box office. That's a few million under the original Ant-Man's $180.2 million domestic haul.

According to the publication, one of the main reasons why Ant-Man and the Wasp is going to struggle to earn in the next few weeks in cinemas is because of the amount of competition it's going to face. This weekend along will see the premiere of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's action thriller, Skyscraper, and the animated film Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. Meanwhile Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible – Fallout which is already getting great reviews is moving right around the corner.

If Forbes' assessment does come true, then Ant-Man and the Wasp will become Marvel's lowest earner of the year.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is currently screening in cinemas.
