Analysts Believe That Star Wars: Episode IX Would Perform Like The Dark Knight

There might not be that much buzz about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker yet, but everyone's expecting Episode IX to be one of the biggest hits of the year.

According to Forbes, analysts believe that the film is going to perform much like The Dark Knight when it makes its way to the public later this year. The publication predicts that Episode IX is going to rule the box office during the year-end holiday season, not only in North American cinemas but in theatres abroad as well.

Sure, there might be a lot riding on Episode IX considering that the film is both going to close Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy and culminate the entire Skywalker saga, however, it seems like we can't be quite certain whether the film will perform just as well as Marvel's Avengers: Endgame.

The Star Wars franchise might be one of the most popular science fiction film franchises in history, but unlike superhero franchises like Marvel or DC, the galaxy far, far away has had some difficulty enticing the foreign market, especially in places like China where the original Star Wars was screened too late for the market to actually really care about the franchise.

Of course, things could end up different this time around. If Lucasfilm markets Star Wars well enough overseas, we may very well see a great contender that could give Endgame a run for its money. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed and wait and see.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
