Adam Driver Compares Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to Marriage Story

It might be hard to find similarities between a drama like Marriage Story and a cosmic blockbuster like Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but Star Wars sequel trilogy actor Adam Driver doesn't think that both of the films are that different.

Speaking in an interview with Cinema Blend, the Kylo Ren actor decides to talk about his upcoming film Marriage Story. Driver compares the Netflix drama to his highly-anticipated Star Wars movie, The Rise of Skywalker, saying that the process in acting in both films aren't too dissimilar.

"In a way, Star Wars is a big blockbuster, which you would think would be maybe devoid of those conversations [about character]," Driver explains, "But I haven't found the process very dissimilar. You try to make Star Wars personal as much as anything else, and because J.J. [Abrams] was the director and because Rian Johnson was the director, it all came down to similar [things]… taking moments and breaking them into pieces and making sure you're truthful."

For those who haven't been able to follow the details about Driver's new Netflix movie, Marriage Story is a comedy-drama that follows the life of a married couple as they go through a coast-to-coast divorce. Avengers: Endgame actress Scarlett Johansson plays the lead role together with Driver while Laura Dern, Alan Alda, Ray Liotta, Azhy Robertson, Julie Hagerty, and Merritt Wever all make up the cast.

Though Marriage Story doesn't really have any of the intricate space battles and lightsabers that Star Wars is known for, Driver seems to say that The Rise of Skywalker's narrative is just going to be as complex as the upcoming Netflix drama.
