Thor: Ragnarok to Exclude Natalie Portman, Marvel Head Kevin Feige Explains Why

Natalie Portman's Jane Foster is officially out of the Thor: Ragnarok storyline.

In Thor and Thor: The Dark World, the world-leading astrophysicist had been pretty pivotal to Thor and his missions, but apparently, her expertise won't be needed anymore in Ragnarok since the movie will take place "in the cosmos."

In a recent interview with the Empire Film Podcast, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has officially confirmed that Portman's Jane Foster, who also plays Thor's love interest, will no longer be in the third Thor movie.

Feige explained how Portman's absence is due to "many reasons, many of which are in the film, so you will see that."

He added:

...there are only a couple scenes on Earth in this movie. The majority, 90 … 5 percent of the movie, takes place in the cosmos.

Prior to announcing Jane's exclusion in the film, Feige said that Marvel frequently sees threequels as an "opportunity and the time to really change things up."

Portman's last appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Jane was in 2013's Thor: The Dark World, but he was mentioned in Avengers: Age of Ultron last year.

There have been rumors that Creed star Tessa Thompson's character will be replacing Jane as Thor's love interest, thereby giving rise to speculations that Jane won't be making her return to the MCU indefinitely.

If true, it would be interesting to see how they will introduce Thompson's character and have her develop a romance with Thor, especially since in The Dark World, Portman pretty much got the blessing of Thor's mother already.

To be helmed by Taika Waititi, Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and Cate Blanchett in a rumored villainous role.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
