The World's Biggest Privately-Owned Star Wars Collection Has Been Robbed

On Monday morning, Steve Sansweet, the man who owns and offers tours of the world's largest privately-owned Star Wars colleciton, announced that he's been robbed over the past several months.

Sansweet, the proprietor of Rancho Obi-Wan in Northern California, and a prolific Star Wars author and collector, listed over 100 items from his collection that have been robbed, "the majority of them vintage U.S. and foreign carded action figures, many of them rare and important pieces." They were reportedly "resold or professionally appraised for a total of more than $200,000."

Sansweet said that the thefts were discovered when the sale of an ultra-rare Boba Fett action figure was tracked from its buyer to a person named Carl Edward Cunningham. Sansweet considered Cunningham "a good and trusted friend" who surrendered to police at the end of March but he's now out on bail pending additional hearings.

The site of Rancho Obi_Wan is asking fans who have found themselves in possession of the super rare vintage Star Wars collectibles that may have been stolen by Cunningham to contact them to find out if it's one of the items missing.

Speaking to iO9, Sansweet said:

"This has been a devastating betrayal from someone I considered a friend for 20 years. But already the Star Wars community has offered its support and two of the purchasers have said they are returning the stolen items that they bought."
