The Walking Dead Teases Rick Being the New Right-Hand Guy to Maggie

The Walking Dead Fans may have bid farewell to our favorite baseball-cap wearing then-errand boy and right-hand man to Rick in opening of season 7. But now, as the premiere date for the back half of the season draws nearer, AMC teases us with a new image to set the mood to the countdown.

TV Line got its hands on the exclusive First Look image, and in this one still, we see a lot of what's going on. First off, the main gang is back together—so that parting shot in the midseason finale wasn't just for show.

The image shows Rick and the crew in what appears to be a faceoff between Hilltop's Gregory. Remember Gregory, the guy who just can't help but mumble and be a coward in some episodes last season? Yes, that's the one.

He's sitting in his grand office, all things considered, and even though he and his study desk are supposed to be the foreground, our eyes the fact that the main Survivors are the more dominating ones in the image. Gregory himself looks very cornered as he edges further into his seat.

More interesting is the fact that his argument seems trained on Maggie more than Rick. If we try to analyze the image from a focal perspective, Maggie looks more like the one leading the confrontation, with Rick just there for support. See the way she just stands, one arm on the chair as though saying she's not that weak to need to sit down?

Third interesting point is that Maggie's new look may be what the showrunners were saying about her embodying Glenn, at least in the physical sense. Before, we'd usually see her with longer hair and girlier (as can be) clothes. Now she's wearing leather gloves, a long sleeve top, and Glenn's cap. It's a similar look that we saw her in a previous episode, so it feels like this is Maggie's way of paying homage beyond keeping him in her heart.

Again, teasers don't always deliver, but if even Andrew Lincoln is so excited to dance after reading a key part in the script, I'm crossing my fingers that it will be able to go back to delivering a good season 7 ender.

The Walking Dead will be back for the second half of the seventh season on Feb. 12 on AMC.
