The Walking Dead Teasers: Choosing Who Gets the Bat and that Non-Redeeming Deleted Scene

The Walking Dead isn't coming for a good three months. To tease fans even more, executive producer Greg Nicotero gives a sneak preview of how they had chosen who will die by Lucille's barbs.

In a Comic-Con 2016 panel (via Films That Rock), Nicotero gave some insights on how they had chosen Lucille's victim. For starters, there is the comic book material. But apart from this, the executive producer recognizes that fans have been expecting this since it was first published.

"It's a fascinating exercise in emotion because shock and denial and all these things play into it. It was a master class in acting from these people right here to watch on a daily basis. Every time you get the outlines or the scripts or Scott and the writers pitch, you never want to hear that it's coming. I think with this particular episode, everybody knows it's coming so it's agonizing to think about the fact that we're changing the landscape of our characters."

There's still no definitive word as to who will die, but one thing seems clear: those months of waiting may be worth the change in pace and characters for The Walking Dead.

To appease your craving for some The Walking Dead footage, Entertainment Weekly got its hands on an exclusive deleted scene for season 6. This happens sometime before Nicholas got himself killed on that dumpster.

In the scene, we see Nicholas confronting Glenn about what he did. He admitted to Glenn that he wasn't ready and with Glenn told him straight on that he wasn't. While Nicholas does admit that he deserved what would have happened if Glenn had told on him.

"I need for this to mean something"

From the way the dialogue goes, it seems that Nicholas was trying to get Glenn to let him help so he can become better at facing off walkers. Oddly enough, Glenn may have made the wrong choice to trust Nicholas after all, given what had happened.

I'm not sure if this sort of redeems Nicholas in your eyes. For me, what happened on that dumpster was a little unnecessary. For one, if the TV series follows the comic books, then it takes away the very impact of Glenn's death by the bat. If not, I still feel at odds about how Glenn's under-the-dumps survival—even if he's one of my biases for survivors in this show.

As for my view of Nicholas, it still hasn't changed even with the scene. Sure, he wants to improve himself and become better so he can have redemption. But in the world of the walkers—and now Negan—it seems that "trying hard" isn't just going to cut it anymore.
