The Venom Teaser Trailer Is Here

Sony has released the first Venom teaser trailer and it sure is something. Whether that something is good will be heavily debated, though it does give fans glimpses of Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock and Michelle Williams post-Greatest Showman. Granted, it is a teaser trailer, so more concrete details will likely be revealed later but it's hard not to be disappointed.

Throughout the nearly two minute video, we see Eddie Brock walk, run, and enter an MRI for what will most likely be cancer. We do also see researchers get their hands on the symbiote, which is noteworthy at least. Unfortunately, fans who were hoping to see the fan-favorite Spider-Man villain are going to be very disappointed.

Now some would argue that Sony reveals too much in their full-length trailers, so the company actually showing restraint is a good thing. Look at how spoiler-filled the trailers for Spider-Man: Homecoming and Amazing Spider-Man 2 were. In a way, the intentional lack of Venom might be a blessing in disguise.

That being said, it wouldn't have killed anyone if teases of Venom were in the trailer. Show some mooks running away or getting dragged by symbiote tendrils, without showing the character. There are ways to be subtle and exciting after all. Hopefully, the next trailer is better.

Venom hits theaters on October 5.
