The Upcoming Dragon Ball Super Movie Will Introduce A New Villain

Now that the new Dragon Ball Super film has been confirmed to continue the story beyond the show's Universe Survival arc, fans are wondering who the next villain would be. Although we still don't know much about the film's plot, it was revealed during Jump Festa 2017 last December that it will focus on the Saiyans and the origin of Goku's power.

According to Kazenshuu's new translation, series creator Akira Toriyama said that the 20th Dragon Ball film will feature a new villain that's been saved for this idea:

"The Dragon Ball Super movie this time will be the next story in the series currently airing on TV. It will be an episode after catching our breath from the climax of the Tournament of Power with the universe's existence on the line; with content that will give a little better understanding about Freeza and the Saiyans, which I hadn't properly depicted up till now; and leading to a mighty foe saved for the occasion, which I think has it shaping up to be a really enjoyable story."

It's likely that the new villain has strong connections to Goku or Frieza. Maybe the end of the Tournament of Power will see Frieza using the Super Dragon Balls to wish for this new villain's resurrection. The villain could be significant to Goku's past and knows something about the Saiyans' history that Toriyama hasn't revealed yet. It would be cool if Jiren would team-up with the Universe 7 heroes to help take down this new villain.

Dragon Ball Super is set to air on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami still airs the English dub of Dragon Ball Super on Adult Swim Saturdays at 9:30 p.m. It's also available to stream on FunimationNOW and Amazon.

The 20th Dragon Ball film is set to release in Japanese theaters on December 14, 2018.
