The Russo Brothers Used The God Father References To Help Josh Brolin Play Thanos

It might be an odd comparison, but it seems like the Russo Brothers used references to The Godfather to help Brolin with his character, the Mad Titan Thanos, in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers4.

The actor recently spoke with Collider, and during the interview, the Marvel star went ahead and opened up about what it was like to shoot Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel, Avengers 4. During their discussion, Brolin revealed that the Russo Brothers had helped him level with Thanos by "resourcing" things from The Godfather.

"I got Joe Russo who's constantly resourcing like The Godfather and, ‘You have a gun to his fucking head.' I'm like, ‘I love you so much. The fact that you're taking an Avengers scenario and you're turning it into a Godfather thing for us to be able to kind of hang our hat on is great, and to emotionalize the whole thing,'" the Marvel star gushed.

Bringing life into a massive and powerful Titan isn't easy, and it looks like The Russo Brothers wanted to add as much depth to the character as possible.

"I think they were very happy where they said, ‘We didn't really realize that Thanos is going to be as complex as he is,' and I think they were very appreciative with the stuff that we're bringing to it," Brolin explained. "I think that they're in a position very openly and raw-ly where they're like, ‘We would never do this again. This is a one-time deal. To put this many successful actors together is such a pain in the ass, but it's been worth it. We're doing two movies. One back to back, and this is it for us. Then we'll go off in another direction,' but this is a very, very, very ambitious project that I think is going to pay off in a big way."

We wonder what it'll be like to see Thanos transform like Vito Corleone did in The Godfather, becoming loose and violent when the situation needed him to be.

Avengers: Infinity War hits cinemas May 4, 2018, while Avengers 4 makes its big debut on May 3, 2019.
