The Punisher Series Is About 'Men Suffering Tragedy And Trauma'

Jon Bernthal's Punisher was very well-received when he debuted in Daredevil season two, and Netflix has decided to make a spinoff series centered on Frank Castle which is set to come out later this year. Westworld actor Ben Barnes has also joined the cast in the form of Billy Russo a.k.a. Jigsaw, and he talks about the series and how it chooses to present Frank's story.

Talking to Da Man, Barnes says:

"I was really pleased at the grounded, tough approach to the material. Our show is about men suffering tragedy and trauma; it's about a very real topic set in a world of superheroes—but no character in our show has superpowers and that makes it feel unique in this universe."

In Daredevil, Frank was revealed to be a veteran soldier who seeks his revenge on the mob after a shootout gone wrong made him lose his family. Frank eventually got his revenge in the by the end of season two, but it looks like he's going to keep going on with his vigilante work.

The series looks to delve deeper into the experiences of soldiers who have been in the battlefield and are coming back home. We've all heard stories about men coming back with PTSD, and it looks like The Punisher will try to handle that issue, only with a superhero setting backdrop.

I'm very excited to see what happens in the show. Frank Castle was hands down one of the best elements of Daredevil, and I want to see Bernthal do all kinds of chaos in his own series.

No specific release date has been announced for The Punisher, but it's likely that the show comes out on Netflix this November.
