The Next X-Men Film Will Be Set in The '90's

You might have noticed the trend of the latest X-Men trilogy's timeline. 2011's X-Men: First Class happens in the 1960's; its sequel, X-Men: Days of Future Past, is set in the 1970's; and this year's X-Men: Apocalypse is set in the 1980's. You can probably guess by now where the next X-Men film will be heading. ComingSoon.net talked to Simon Kinberg at the film's junket where the producer confirmed what you're probably expecting.

"The next one is set in the '90s," Kinberg said.

Kinberg didn't specify if he meant it for the next headline "X-Men" film in the series, or Josh Boone's in-development New Mutants film, but check back here later for further confirmation.

The upcoming New Mutants movie is set to feature a new group of mutantteens, including Magik, Wolfsbane, Dani Moonstar, Cannonball, Sunspot, and Warlock with a previous report pointing toward Alexandra Shipp‘s Storm (who makes her debut in this summer's X-Men: Apocalypse) and James McAvoy's Professor Charles Xavier playing a major role in the movie as well.

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27.
