The New Dune Movie To Be Written By The Guy Who Wrote Forrest Gump

Legendary has hired veteran screenwriter Eric Roth to write the Dune reboot, Variety reports. Sicario and Arrival director Denis Villeneuve is helming the film. Villeneuve also directed the upcoming Blade Runner 2049.

Roth is known for his work on Forrest Gump, The Insider, Munich, Ali, The Curious Case with Benjamin Button, and more.

Last Thanksgiving, Legendary closed a deal with the Frank Herbert estate, granding the company rights to not just films, but also TV projects on the classic science fiction property.

Synopsis:

Set in the distant future, "Dune" follows Paul Atreides, whose family assumes control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, jurisdiction over Arrakis is contested among competing noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man's relationship to nature, as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family's reign.

I'm glad that they've chosen a brilliant screenwriter to take on Dune. With Villeneuve and Roth working together for this film, I'm sure it's going to be a better adaptation than David Lynch's version.
