The Last Jedi Director Says Benicio Del Toro’s DJ Isn’t Ezra Bridger In Disguise

It's official. Benecio Del Toro's DJ in Star Wars: The Last Jedi really isn't Star Wars Rebels protagonist Ezra Bridger. There have been a lot of theories going on about Del Toro's character ever since he was cast and one of the most prominent speculations is that DJ is actually the rebel fighter and Jedi Padawan Ezra Bridger in disguise.

While the theory has been making the rounds for quite some time, The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has officially confirmed that DJ isn't Ezra at all. Speaking in an interview with Good Morning America, Johnson was asked about DJ's mysterious identity and while Rebels fans would have loved to hear that Del Toro's character was actually an older version of Ezra, it seems like he has no links to the Jedi padawan at all.

"Oh Ezra from Rebels? He's his own person, he's his own person."

While this puts an end to all the DJ-Ezra shenanigans, Johnson's response also tells fans that there's something more to DJ's name, saying that it "stands for something (other than disc jockey)." Could DJ be linked to an older character in the Star Wars franchise? Let's wait and see.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits cinemas December 15, 2017.
