The Last Jedi: Benicio Del Toro's DJ Is Neither Hero Nor Villain

The marketing for Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been on point, showing us interesting character interactions and teasing plenty of dramatic moments. We've seen Rey interact with Luke, Kylo Ren unsure if he can kill his mother, a more serious Poe Dameron, and Finn taking on his old boss Captain Phasma. However, we have not seen the mysterious new character known as DJ, played by acclaimed actor Benicio del Toro. As fans question his allegiance, the actor himself gave an interesting answer.

During an interview with Sci-Fi Now magazine (via Screen Rant), del Toro claimed that DJ is neither good nor bad, despite rumors that he's allied with Resistance supporter Maz Kanata. The actor was pretty vague about the character's motivations, though he seemingly confirms previous reports that he would be an anti-hero at most. Considering his lack of appearances in recent media, he's definitely a character fans want to keep an eye on.

Here's del Toro's full statement on DJ:

"Maybe you could find him in a Bob Dylan song or a Tom Waits song. Or maybe in a Dostoyevsky novel. You'll find DJ in one of those stories. You don't know what he is. But that's the idea… You don't know if he's good or bad."

While he hasn't appeared in any promotional material, there's no doubt that he's captured the interest of fans. How he impacts the story will be very interesting since the actors in the film have praised del Toro's performance, whilst also building up the fact that no one can trust him.

Fans can finally see what DJ is like when Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15.
