The Incredibles 2 Just Passed The Original Movie At The Global Box Office

It looks like the Incredibles 2 just passed the original ground-breaking superhero animated movie at the worldwide box office this weekend.

According to Box Office Mojo, the critically-acclaimed sequel to Brad Bird's Incredibles managed to rake in $646.8 million at the global box office over the weekend, beating the $633 million total worldwide haul of the original 2004 Pixar movie by more than $13 million. And Incredibles 2 isn't even done with its theatrical run yet.

The film which made its way to the big screen last month has been screening for seventeen days, meaning that the film has quite a few more weeks to go till it bows out of cinemas. During its opening on June 15, the film managed to rake in one of the biggest domestic box office openings of the year, bringing in more than $180 million in the North American Market. That's not all. The Incredibles 2's opening makes it the fifth-largest debut of all time for a superhero film, a great feat for any animated superhero movie.

The only comic book movies with even higher openings like The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Black Panther, and Avengers: Infinity War. None of the DC Extended Universe films even beat Incredibles 2.

Of course, Incredibles 2's success comes as no surprise. It's been 14 years since the original Incredibles release, and there's been so much anticipation building over the sequel. A complex film, fans, and critics praise Incredibles 2 for its detail and its ability to empower men and women in the family.
