The Batman: Director Matt Reeves Compares Bruce Wayne To Planet Of The Apes’ Caesar

Matt Reeves has had a stellar run with the Planet of the Apes franchise, and he's been signed on to direct the next Batman solo movie. In an interview with Los Angeles Daily News, he talks about the similarities between Batman and the lead to his Apes movies, Caesar.

Reeves explains:

"It's a strange thing to be involved in the two franchises which were the two that I was connected to most as a child. I just was obsessed with Batman when I was a kid. What I find so interesting about him as a character is that, as far a superhero goes, he's not superhuman, he is a person. And he is a tortured soul who is grappling with his past and trying to find a way to be in a world that has a lot that's wrong with it and trying to find a way to reconcile all of that … That is a really powerful character, in the same way that Caesar is such a powerful character."

From this point, I don't know if he's promoting his new Planet of the Apes movie or Batman, but the characters do share a certain character arc — not to mention, both of them are considered highly intelligent for their species.

It may be a while before we get to see Batman in his own solo movie again, but he'll be swinging into action in November's Justice League. War for the Planet of the Apes hits theaters July 14.
