Take A Look At The Human Versions Of SpongeBob, Patrick, And Sandy From The SpongeBob Broadway Musical

SpongeBob SquarePants is probably one of the biggest franchises from Nickelodeon today, and he's a property enjoyed by kids and adults who grew up in the 90s. SpongeBob is coming to Broadaway this December in the form of a new musical, and thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we get a first look at the human versions of SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy.

Check them out:

According to EW, SpongeBob is being played by newcomer Ethan Slater, and his song, (Just A) Simple Sponge, is written by Panic! at the Disco frontman Brendon Urie. Urie says:

"Anyone who knows me is aware of my love of both Broadway and animation… I'm so happy I was able bring a song to life that marries two of my favorite things for the SpongeBob SquarePants Broadway musical."

Aside from Urie, several artists have also been tapped to make original songs for the show. We'll be getting songs from They Might Be Giants, Lady Antebellum, John Legend, Sara Bareilles, Cyndi Lauper, and many more. When it comes to approaching the artists, director Tina Landau said:

"We very specifically asked all of the artists to write how they write, and not try to do what they think Nickelodeon or SpongeBob would sound like. What's amazing is, when we hear them sung by our performers, you can tell exactly who wrote which song. We really wanted that difference."

SpongeBob SquarePants the musical opens on Broadway Dec. 4, but previews for the show will be coming out Nov. 6. You can also check out the original cast recording from Masterworks Broadway which will be available on Sept. 22.
