Taika Waititi Created His Thor Sizzle Reel From Torrented Film Clips

Before Thor: Ragnarok was officially green-lit, director Taika Waititi made a sizzle reel, a cut of clips to present tone and concept to the higher-ups. Marvel Studios president. It was scored by Led Zeppelin's ImmigrantSong, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige even called it "amazing".

The sizzle reel may have landed Waititi the gig, but according to the filmmaker himself, he put together the clips illegally. Speaking to the Canadian radio station CBC Radio, Waititi admitted, "There was no story when I went in, they didn't have a story or any ideas, really, so I cut together little clips and shots. I, uh, basically illegally torrented and downloaded clips from a bunch of different movies."

Yep, piracy pays off but no, kids, it can get you in big trouble.

"I don't mind saying that on the radio," Waititi said after revealing what he did, joking, "You can cut that out."

The New Zealand native is known for his indie comedies so this isn't surprising.
