Syfy Adapting Simons' Hyperion With Bradley Cooper, Graham King and Todd Phillips

Dan Simmons' Hugo Award-winning science fiction novel Hyperion is finally getting a TV adaptation.

SyFy announced Wednesday that it is teaming with Bradley Cooper, Oscar winner Graham King (The Departed, Argo) and Todd Phillips (The Hangover) to adapt Hyperion as an event series.

Hyperion, first published in 1989, is the first book of the Hyperion Canton series, and won the prestigious Hugo Award for Best Novel.

Here's the synopsis of the novel:

Set on the eve of Armageddon with the entire galaxy at war, Hyperion is the story of seven pilgrims who set forth on a voyage to seek the answers to the unsolved riddles of their lives. Each carries a desperate hope and a terrible secret — while one may hold the fate of humanity in his hands.

Hyperion is one of the books in my To-Read pile; I've recently purchased the audio version of it in Audible, but haven't read it yet.

Itamar Moses (Boardwalk Empire) is writing the screenplay and co-producing.

As THR notes, Syfy has been working hard to get science fiction back in the popular consciousness by producing shows like 12 Monkeys, Childhood's End, Brave New World, Krypton, The Magicians, Dark Matter, Z Nation, and more over the past years.

Have you read Hyperion? Are you excited to see this on TV?
