Suicide Squad 2 Could Start Filming Mid 2018

David Ayer's Suicide Squad may have been a critical bomb, but the movie made a lot of money in the box office, and the studio is already working on releasing a sequel. With the movies that DC is planning now, we may have to wait a while before work starts on Suicide Squad 2.

According to The Hollwood Reporter, Warner Bros is planning on starting Suicide Squad 2 at some point in the middle of 2018. Some fans may think that's too far back, and the cause of the delay is said to be rewrites from Zak Penn (Avengers, X-men).

The movie is also set to look for a director other than David Ayer. Ayer himself is working on a spinoff called Gotham City Sirens which focuses on the femme fatales of Gotham City including Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy.

So far, frontrunner for the director job is Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan), but those plans aren't solidified yet. Personally I would have loved to see Guy Ritchie take on the job, but he's directing Disney's live-action adaptation of Aladdin; a terrible shame counting that he's the best when it comes to making ensemble crime comedies.

No official release date has been announced for Suicide Squad 2, but with the 2018 production goal, it's possible the movie could come out in 2019.
