When the teaser upside down table read photo was released, the hype train for Stranger Things season 2 has started running on full speed once more.
And it's not without good reason. Considering how well the Netflix original series was received and how memorable the characters are—even someone as supposedly as mundane as Barb—fans are just as excited, if not even more, for the next season.
In an interview with Collider, Stranger Things Producer/Director Shawn Levy revealed a few key things about the show's new season. The first is that filming has already commenced this week. And just to follow the successful trend, the creators are being a little superstitious about who will direct which episodes.
This means that episode 3 and 4 of Season 2 will fall on Lev's shoulders. What's more, filming will also take place in Atlanta as before.
As far as the theme of the second season will be, Levy just gave a small hint:
"I'm not gonna say how much time has gone by. It is not the next day, I'll say that. and there are several new characters who I think several of them are going to be new fan-favorites because they're great, great new characters. But we are definitely sticking primarily with our core group, and what is different, how they are changed from the experience last season… maybe ‘normal' is never possible again."
It will mean a lot of picking up the pieces, and probably trying to go back the way things were—and likely failing at it.
Perhaps even better news is the fact that the Duffer Brothers are already thinking of the continuation with season 3. From the way things unfolded in Season 1, there's little doubt that the show will be renewed, so they've begun to think about what happens next.
Stranger Things Season 2 will be back in 2017 with nine episodes, making it essentially longer than the first season.
