Stephen King Wants to See A Rated-R The Dark Tower Sequel

Stephen King's magnum opus The Dark Tower has finally been released on the big screen, but many were disappointed at the film that only got an 18% aggregated score in Rotten Tomatoes. It was also a box office disaster, with the film only earning $27.5 million at the box office so far.

Despite of that, The Dark Tower TV series, which promised to be "totally canon", is still moving forward with a new showrunner, and Stephen King is discussing a sequel to the film, and he would want it to be rated R. While speaking to Birthmoviesdeath, King was asked if there was anything that wasn't in director Nikolaj Arcel's film that he wished made the cut, and here's his response:

"I would love to see Roland on the beach with those lobster monstrosities and I understand the rationale behind [this] movie, that it's PG-13. I totally signed off on that. I think it's the right thing to do. I want as many people as possible to attend for all kinds of reasons…but I would love to see the next picture be R. Because I think that's sort of where we're coming from now, where the movies need to go."

Sadly, with the first film bombing at the box office, Warner Bros. is probably not going to green-light a sequel but I'm hoping that they do. Making the sequel rated-R would most likely give the film more freedom to give fans what they loved in King's books.

The Dark Tower is now showing U.S. theaters.
