Star Wars The Last Jedi: Rian Johnson Teases That [SPOILER] Might Still Be Alive

[THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI]

Captain Phasma turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments from The Force Awakens counting that she looked absolutely cool but turned out completely useless. A lot of people thought she would redeem herself in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but to many fans' disappointment, she had a few minutes of screentime, only to fall into a flaming hole in the ground. What gives, Lucasfilm?

Director Rian Johnson (via Entertainment Weekly), however, has pointed out that there's still hope that Phasma is alive, jokingly saying:

"Phasma is the Kenny from South Park of this series."

Judging by the numerous times she has been bamboozled by Finn, I want her to do something much more badass (finally) in Star Wars Episode IX. Either that's going to happen, or we see her shorthanded for one last time.

Mark Hamill himself also believes that there's still hope for Phasma, saying:

"I think she's got to survive. She falls through the flames and lands on a big pile of rubbish."

Costume designer Michael Kaplan also reveals that actress Gwendoline Christie already has a plan on how she comes back, and that she "has it all figured out."

Just like Boba Fett and the Sarlacc, I think Phasma's armor is going to be integral to her survival of that fall. We know that it's powerful enough to deflect blaster bolts, so it should also protect her from all that fire. I'm guessing she comes back with a burned face thanks to the damage on her helmet by Finn.

Personally, I'd love to see Christie come back. Hopefully third time's a charm and Phasma finally does something relevant in Star Wars Episode IX.
