Star Wars: The Last Jedi Reveals The Truth About Rey's Parents

Warning: Spoilers For Star Wars: The Last Jedi

One of the biggest questions surrounding Star Wars: The Last Jedi was Rey's heritage. Ever since Rey displayed her use of the Force, fans have been debating over who her parents are. Some theorized that she would be Luke's long-lost daughter, whom he may have abandoned after he lost his way. Others felt she was actually Obi-Wan Kenobi's daughter, which would have been interesting.

Instead of those, The Last Jedi revealed that her parents were no one special. Apparently, they sold her for alcohol money and died unceremonious deaths.

Early on in the film, both characters are suddenly linked by the Force and mentally communicate on numerous occasions. It's revealed that Snoke, a super powerful Sith Lord, is the one responsible for their link. He's later killed by Ren and the two even team up to take on the fallen Sith's men, though that is short-lived.

Kylo-Ren then reveals that he knows who her parents are. Not because he found them through cryptic means. He knew about them through his mental link with Rey, who always knew who her parents were but wasn't ready to accept the uneasy truth.

Considering how hyped up this part of the film was, it's easy to see why fans were disappointed with this. At the same time, it was a clever bit and one that makes the film feel a bit fresh. It's nice to know that Rey is her own character and has no relations to the Skywalkers.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is showing now.
