Star Wars: The Last Jedi Novelization Reveals the Millennium Falcon has an AI Personality

Back in Empire Strikes Back, we had a scene with C-3PO apparently ‘talking' to the Falcon, trying to find out what it needed. We haven't had any mention of the Falcon having a personality since then, but thanks to the novelization for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we have a clue on the actual AI that run the Millennium Falcon.

The novel reads (via ScreenRant):

"When the Falcon mentioned something about barely being able to detect the back end of a bantha at high noon, R2-D2 suppressed an electronic sigh. The Falcon had always been cantankerous, its three droid brains quarreling endlessly unless forced to work together. Still, R2-D2 usually got along with the ship well enough. For one thing, none of the brains could stand C-3PO; for another, one of them had a fondness for both romantic gossip and dirty jokes, both of which R2-D2 had learned to provide in large quantities."

Some have chosen to guess that the origin of the Falcon's personalities will be explored in Solo: A Star Wars Story, what with the book also giving us an idea of what Han's youth was like in Corellia. Some guess that a new droid character that will be introduced in Solo, L3-37, will provide her personality to the Falcon at some point. After all, she was Lando Calrissian's co-pilot.

Of course, there's a possibility that this is just a throwaway joke for the book. It's funny to think that R2 is actually a bit of a ‘ladies' man' when it comes to talking to other droids. It's also kind of fun that Han Solo's ship has an affinity for dirty jokes.

The Falcon returns in Solo: A Star Wars Story on May 25.
