Though Star Wars: The Force Awakens introduced us to two new protagonists in the form of Finn and Rey, a new character by the name of Rose Tico will be making her debut in The Last Jedi. Kelly Marie Tran, who plays Rose, talks about her character and gives us some traits that we can expect from her in the upcoming movie.
Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Tran explains:
"Rose is smart and she's confident and she's loyal. She's going to be such a cool character because she's someone who isn't a model. She's not a superhero. She's just kind of an everyday person, and that's something special about her. She's someone who is able to face her fears in the face of adversity even though she kind of is a background player in the Resistance."
As far as details go, we know that Rose isn't particularly on the side of either the Resistance or the First Order. She's said to be more of a technician who unwittingly gets dragged into the fray by newly appointed Resistance soldier Finn. She does have a sister who is a gunner for the Resistance though.
A lot of people are excited to see what kind of character Rose Tico will turn out to be. As far as comparisons go, it's like Rose will turn out to be the Lando of the sequel trilogy—in a sense that she is introduced in the second film and becomes a part of the major players.
