Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Daisy Ridley Says Luke Skywalker Doesn't Meet Rey's Expectations

Luke Skywalker's brief appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens didn't give us a big picture of how the iconic hero has evolved over the years. Of course, he's not the same Luke we last saw in Return of the Jedi, and based on what we've seen in the first trailer for The Last Jedi, it seems that he's not optimistic about the future, especially when he says, "It's time for the Jedi to end."

Of course, Rey (played by Daisy Ridley) heard of stories about the legendary Luke Skywalker, but it turns out that she might actually be disappointed after knowing that he's not the same hero we used to know. During an interview with MTV, Ridley reveals that Luke doesn't meet Rey's expectations, saying:

"There were all these expectations on Luke right from the beginning —

this is your calling, this is what you have to do, you have to train

. And then clearly something's taken him away. In a way, they're both similar, but she's very much looking up to him to be this thing that she thinks he is, and a long time's passed."

Luke might feel guilty for helping the Knights of Ren rise to power or he might be afraid that his involvement or the existance of the Jedi would just make the situation worse, which could explain his self-explain.

Directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to release in theaters on December 15, 2017. The film also features returning stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong'o Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher. Benicio Del Toro, and Kelly Marie Tran and Laura Dern make their Star Wars debut in this film.
