Star Wars: The Force Awakens Will Ask "Who is Luke Skywalker?"

Luke Skywalker may not be directly involved in the events of Star Wars: the Force Awakens, but it seems that he will still have a significant role in the film's plot. The film will explore the question of "Who is Luke Skywalker?" and will probably learn that he is more or less than what we previously believed.

The Force Awakens takes place 30 years after the celebration on Endor at the end of Return of the Jedi, so the film will show us how Luke had changed throughout those years.

"The themes and ideas that we all continue to talk about are the themes and ideas that were the inherent in the original movies," Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy tells EW. "We're looking, obviously, for aspiration, for characters who are conflicted between good and evil, dark and light."

Meanwhile, Leia will acquire her father's old lightsaber, previously in Luke's possession, but lost during his duel with Darth Vader at Cloud City. We still don't know how that part of the plot would unfold.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released in North American theaters on December 18, 2015.
