Star Wars’ Rian Johnson Deletes More Than Twenty Thousand Tweets After James Gunn Controversy

It's been a few days after James Gunn was fired from his role as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's director because of inappropriate and offensive tweets made fourteen years in the past, and there have been a lot of responses to the controversy. The Guardians of the Galaxy cast have been speaking up to defend Gunn with other celebrities, and fans have been petitioning for Disney to reinstate the director.

Though it is uncertain whether it comes as a reaction to Gunn's firing, but it looks like Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has just deleted more than 20,000 tweets from his account after the controversy.

According to a video made by the YouTube channel John Talks Star Wars, Johnson has just recently deleted more than twenty thousand tweets from his Twitter account. Shown in the screenshots presented in the video, Johnson used to have 22.3 thousand tweets on his account. Now it's down to 1, 126.

Of course, while the tweets have been taken off Twitter, the posts can still be seen on the Wayback Machine, a site which archives web pages. The sudden purge might alarm some, but it doesn't necessarily mean that Johnson has unsavory and offensive tweets to hide from the public. The director could simply be taking safety precautions after Gunn's firing , or he could have just suddenly felt the need to purge. People are free to clean up their accounts from time to time.
