Star Wars Rebels Showrunner Warns That Final Season Is “More Serialized Than You’re Used To”

Star Wars Rebels is nearing its fourth season on Disney XD and as the popular Star Wars animated series approaches the release of its final batch of episodes, executive producer Dave Filoni tells fans to expect the show to take a more serialized approach as the story draws closer to the events of Rogue One and A New Hope.

Speaking in an interview with Nerdist to promote Rebels fourth and final season, Filoni decided to let fans know ahead of time that the show would drop its randomized adventures in favor of more connected stories played out in succession.

"I've been able to build a lot better connections and motivations across all the episodes as we go. It is very unlike other seasons because while the episodes are self-contained, they are very next to each other in progression. They affect each other more; it's more serialized than you're used to."

Rebels has quite a number of loose threads to tie, so it makes sense that the series would take on a serialized direction, streamlining its stories and bringing on a sense of urgency. The show is coming to an end, and it looks like Filoni wants to build everything up to the final battle.

Season 4 of Star Wars Rebels debuts on Disney XD later tonight, October 16, 2017.
