Star Wars Novel Suggests Laura Dern's Character Is Bisexual

Laura Dern will be playing Admiral Holdo in the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and the new Leia novel titled Leia: Princess of Alderaan somewhat hints at Holdo's sexuality—suggesting that she is actually bisexual.

ScreenRant points out this specific passage from the book:

"A pair of pretty dark eyes." Then Amilyn thought about that for a moment. "Or more than a pair, if you're into Grans. Or Aqualish, or Talz. Or even – "

"That's all right! Leia said through laughter. "It's just humanoid males for me."

"Really? That feels so limiting."

"Thank goodness it's a big galaxy."

Amilyn in the passage is the first name of Admiral Holdo, and with the novels being canon, it would make Holdo the first openly LGBT character in the Star Wars universe.

Of course, these are just the novels; the pretty ballsy move for Lucasfilm would be to have her bisexual nature hinted at in the movies. Then again, this is Star Wars. Who cares whose sexuality is which? We just want to see lightsaber battles and space explosions!

Looking at it, we should also appreciate that Star Wars is making some strides at diversity. After the original trilogy was admittedly considered a tad misogynistic, it's nice to see more people getting represented in the universe.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi comes out Dec. 15.
