Star Wars Marathon Oddly Decides To Leave Out Rogue One

While it's no surprise to hear that networks are preparing Star Wars marathons for fans in preparation for the release of Lucasfilm's upcoming sequel trilogy installment, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it come as a bit of a shock to see that Rogue One: A Star Wars story has been left off the list of films to marathon this year.

Cineplex has been featuring a bunch of upcoming promotions for The Force Awakens sequel, and this list includes a Star Wars Movie Marathon. However, while one would anticipate the screening of all of Lucasfilm's live-action Star Wars movies after reading the marathon teasing a showing of "all eight movies" in one day, the poster to the event fails to mention anything about Gareth Edward's spinoff, Rogue One.

While it's very likely that Cineplex is keeping its movie marathon to the films in the Skywalker saga, it comes as a slight surprise that the site would decide to skip Rogue One, knowing that the film would still fit in the saga's timeline between Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.

Screening eight films would make little difference in the marathon's run time, after all, Cineplex did screen eleven of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's installments when the site decided to hold a Marvel Marathon to prepare for the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron back in2015. Guess the site just really wants to keep to the traditional saga.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres December 15, 2017.
