Star Wars Interactive Fan Art Piece from Obsidian Shows Insane Universe

Star Wars is prolific even in terms of the gaming environment. However, exploratory-type experiences are a gem to find.

This is what Obsidian Entertainment's Jasonn Lewis, alongside other 16 artists and other individuals from the same studio, have done in their spare time. What they dubbed to be a Star Wars just-for-fun personal project is an homage to the franchise.

But as you can see in the screens of the environments, it's far from being a mere on-a-whim creation. The creators have used Unreal 4 for the project, and as reported by 80 Level, the process is far from being simple. In fact, even as a personal project, the creators have years of gaming development experience under their names, so the scope of the Star Wars project is really big.

The project was only supposed to include the Millennium Falcon, but the project grew as they began adding more to it.

Lewis also confirmed that the Star Wars interactive fan art is already 90% done as of writing. The team plans on finishing it, and will make it available as a free download for everyone.

"It's not really a game, more just an interactive fan art piece. You can run around with a blaster (or a hidden weapon that you have to find) but we were unable to enlist the help of character artists, so the only characters in the environment with you are a bunch of Astromech droids and a few Gonk droids."

Game or not, the project shows off some pretty stunning environments. What's more, the creators have also confirmed that they are working on a VR version of the project. The team has played around with both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive VR kits, so perhaps both VR devices will be available to run the project.

From the looks of the environment alone, it's a project worth checking out. It might even pave the way for a Star Wars VR game somewhere down the line. I know EA's Star Wars Battlefront is already a good run—but just imagine how it will be if you get to wield your own light saber?

Even Disney had previously patented it.

There's no release date yet for the project, but with the extent finished, it may be soon.
