Star Wars: How Snoke Got His Scars, According to Andy Serkis

Whether you love or hate Star Wars: The Last Jedi, there is no doubt that the death of Supreme Leader Snoke was an unexpected turn of events. Fans have been curious about Snoke since he first debuted in The Force Awakens, so when he was killed so easily many were shocked and disappointed.

It might have been a clever little twist but fans were genuinely interested in the villain's history. Though the novelization has cleared some of this up, it wasn't enough for the diehards who were hoping The Last Jedi would answer these questions. Thankfully, Snoke actor Andy Serkis has given fans some interesting information about the villain, specifically why he looks so battle damaged.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly about his motion-capture work for Snoke, he went into some detail as to why Snoke slouches so much and looks the way he does. Serkis feels that Snoke has scoliosis in the spine and has had plenty of battles in the past that left him looking like he did before death.

Serkis: I always imagined that he had a scoliosis of the spine, so that his body was contorted like he's corkscrewed up. He is withered and slightly twisted in his spine, so that gave him that lurch. Those injuries are things that he has carried for a long time, and it's almost like a form of arthritis.
EW:Are we allowed to know what kind of damage that is? What was it that messed him up so badly?
Serkis:It is to do with previous battles. It's a sort of decay as well. He's quite an old character, and those battle scars are affecting his recovery and his body's started to break down as well.

We can only hope that Snoke's backstory gets detailed in the near-future. It could be detailed in a Novel or a Marvel Comics mini-series.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi's digital release hits March 13 while its Blu-Ray and DVD release comes out on March 27.
