Star Wars: Episode IX Director Teases Sequel Trilogy’s “Emotionally Resonant” Conclusion

While Star Wars fans are expecting The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson to take viewers down a darker chapter in the sequel trilogy, Star Wars: Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow promises to give the third batch of Star Wars saga films an "emotionally resonant" end.

Speaking with Screen Rant about his upcoming drama film, The Book of Henry, Trevorrow also touched the topic of script writing and ended up discussing his work with J.J. Abrams, Johnson, and of course, the Lucasfilm Story Group.

"The process of Star Wars began way back in August of 2015 when I looked at what J.J. and Rian had done and I'm very fortunate that I'm surrounded by some really, really brilliant producers and brilliant creative minds – Kiri Hart and the Lucasfilm story group and my producer [Michelle] Rejwan and Kathy Kennedy and also J.J. and Rian, Larry Kasdan. I mean, these are the best minds available and everybody's engaged in making sure this is the most satisfying and emotionally resonant conclusion that we can possibly deliver."

Trevorrow really must have his work cut out for him – not only does he have to remain in the confines of the Lucasfilm system and follow after the story set up by Abrams and Johnson, but he also has to deliver a powerful end to the trilogy. You cannot end with a mediocre movie. It's good that Trevorrow is a true Star Wars fan. Let's wait and see where the Jurassic World director takes us after The Last Jedi.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres on December 15, 2017 while Star Wars: Episode IX hits cinemas on May 24, 2019.
