Star Wars: Episode IX Director Reveals How Wonder Woman Affected His Film

The latest Wonder Woman film has inspired a lot of fans, reminding us that even female superheroes can make an impact in the world of comic books. Star Wars: Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow also learned something important from the film.

Trevorrow told Fandango about how he looks to his own kids for guidance on how to make films so he can inspire his younger audiences. The filmmaker revealed: "You know what really struck me? The most recent example of that is we took my daughter, who's four, so I don't talk to her as much about the movies just yet, but we took her to see Wonder Woman. My wife and I, and my son, we all loved it. It's a great movie, but something else happened with her. She walked out of that theater, and I even tweeted a picture of her the other day."

Trevorrow continued, "She had a very profound reaction to it. We thought it was a little long for her, and we weren't sure if she was going to be a part of this, but she came out and was like, 'I'm going to want to watch that every day, and I am Wonder Woman now.' It was pretty stunning to see it happen. It's important, that movie. It really is."

Does that mean that Rey's attributes will remind us more of Wonder Woman in the final film of the new Star Wars trilogy? It sounds like the director is really inspired by Patty Jenkins' film.

"Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia were all characters that we were able to identify with in various ways, and especially with the character of Rey and what she means to young girls right now, and the challenges that she's up against," Trevorrow said.

"It is extremely crucial that I understand what actual children are feeling about these stories that we're telling them, and I think it's important that I have kids," Trevorrow explained on the importance of a child's perspective. "If filmmakers don't have kids, they should go talk to them because they don't see things the same way that we did when we were kids. So, yes, I am very dialed in to that because I think it's a requisite of the job."

Star Wars: Episode IX will be released in theaters on May 24, 2019. Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released in theaters on December 15, 2017.
