Star Wars Directors Are Collaborating on the New Trilogy, Says Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is right around the corner, and is the Star Wars film on everyone's mind right now. From what we've seen, it looks like director J.J. Abrams has done a brilliant job on Episode VII, but that still leaves two films in the new trilogy to be made, with two different directors. Understandably, some fans are worried about the future of the series. At the Force Awakens press conference (via IGN), Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy assured us that the directors of the trilogy – J.J. Abrams, Rian Johnson, and Colin Trevorrow, respectively – are all working together on the films:

"We haven't mapped out every single detail yet. Obviously everybody's talking to one another, working together and collaborating, and that I think is what's going to guarantee that everybody's got a say in how we move forward with this. So far it's going great. J.J. and Rian have already talked at length because Rian's about to start shooting Episode VIII. These guys [the cast] are getting ready to head over in January, and then Colin will start working with Rian and spend a lot of time on the set with us."

It's good to know that Abrams is working with Rian Johnson and Colin Trevorrow to help maintain a consistent tone and quality throughout the trilogy. I personally think it would be a better idea for Abrams to direct the whole trilogy, but he'll understandably be busy with other projects. I'm sure it won't be long after The Force Awakens releases that we start hearing news about Episode VIII.
