There might be some who're upset with the way Star Wars: The Last Jedi subverted fan expectations, however it's hard to deny the fact that Rian Johnson's sequel trilogy installment brought in a ton of interesting new elements to Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away.
Not only do Star Wars fans get amazing new ships, vehicles and planets in The Force Awakens sequel, they also get a ton of new creatures. And by a ton, we mean more than any other Star Wars movie.
Star Wars creature designer Neal Scanlan recently spoke with Endor Express, and during the discussion with the publication, he revealed that there are far more creatures in The Last Jedi than any other Star Wars installment.
"I do know is that there are more aliens, creatures, and droids produced for this movie than in any other Star Wars film. We topped nearly 180 to 200 individual things."
Scanlan and his team felt a lot of pressure to live up to fan's expectations, so the creature designer says it was pretty relieving that Star Wars fans took to the Porgs early during the film's marketing campaign.
"I'm so relieved that people have responded mostly positive to the porgs. People have seemed to engage with the crystal fox. The fathiers, you know, there are all the characters on Canto Bight, which is essentially, you know, the Monte Carlo of this world, and there is a lot more you haven't seen yet. There are favorites that I cannot tell you about yet."
It's amazing how much work Johnson, Scanlan and the rest of the production team put into The Last Jedi. The love that's put into making the film seems quite evident, and it's such a shame that some fans would openly protest and ask to have The Last Jedi be put out of canon despite all of the effort being made into delivering a fresh and wonderfully cinematic Star Wars movie.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is currently screening in cinemas.
