EA Looks to be righting a lot of wrongs when it comes to the release of Star Wars Battlefront II, as they have promised that players will finally be getting a single player campaign as well as a timeline that spans multiple eras. Eurogamer was able to have a chat with game director Mark Thompson and Lucasfilm creative executive Steve Blank about the game, and we just got a bunch of new information for BF2.
When asked about how linear the campaign will be, Thompson said:
"It is a continuous story with a beginning, middle and end and you follow Iden's journey for 30 years from the end of Jedi up to the Force Awakens at Starkiller base. It isn't a discrete set of missions or separate War Stories like Battlefield 1, you do follow Iden through this journey whilst from time to time, switching sides and playing from the perspective of one of the iconic heroes because again that's just part of Battlefront's DNA. Sometimes you're a Trooper, sometimes you're a pilot and sometimes you're Luke Skywalker with a lightsaber."
The interview also confirms that Galactic Conquest mode won't be available, but it has been a concept that has been left "for another day." The creators have also confirmed that the game's story is 100% canon, and it will reference other things in the expanded universe like comics and novels.
On a side note, when asked if Jar Jar Binks would return as a playable character, Blank responded with a laugh and said, "Ohhh… Only time will tell." So whether that means a playable Jar Jar or not, we'll just have to wait and see what the devs will bring to the game. My guess is that it will be something like the "Ewok Hunt" mode from the original games where you had to hunt local creatures in the map. Was there a Gungan version? I can't remember.
Star Wars Battlefront II comes out for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on Nov. 17.
