Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Will Take Good Inspiration from DICE’s Works

When EA and DICE gave fans a glimpse of Star Wars: Battlefront 2, it showed a game that was far different than what fans played with in the original title. For one, the side from which the player will be looking through is the opposite one. And we're going to see an entirely fleshed out single-player campaign.

That's not to say that the developer won't be taking inspiration from the long line of successful titles that have been rolled out from under DICE's belt. Sharing with PlayStation Lifestyle, DICE Creative Director Bernd Diemer revealed that there are some things that they are retaining from the last Battlefront game. Additionally, they are not averse to getting some inspirations from the developer's own list of titles.

According to Diemer, minute-to-minute gameplay is a style that has been available in a lot of DICE multiplayer. This has a very spontaneous feel to the arena, because no one can really predict what happens from one moment to the next, making each moment in the design unique in a way. Since DICE has better tools to create the experience with, then we might be able to expect even more special moments like these.

One other thing that worked well is the ability to be transported to familiar landscapes in the Star Wars universe. So far, we already saw how the developers can actually transport players into the Star Wars world. And this was a good starting point that would be able to let them explore the world of creation versus just recreating scenes.

As far as inspirations go, those who have already been playing previous DICE titles will be happy to know that a few of the key strokes and styles may find their way into Star Wars: Battlefront 2.

"If they [from Battlefield] do something that works really, really well, we peek over and put it on the table. We have to be careful to make sure it fits our lens though. Is it Star Wars? Is it Battlefront? And also, is it part of this hero's journey we want to give every player?"

As with any game, it's a good move to make sure that they tailor the tone to the actual game's vibe. Battlefield is already an icon as a game, but there are mechanics that can easily fit other games from the developers' lineup. The key is always to make sure that it fits the theme, so it's a familiar bonus for fans.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will be out on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on Nov. 17.
