Star Trek: Discovery Getting Second Season

Halfway through the first season, CBS All Access has renewed Star Trek: Discovery for a second season. While the show received a mixed reception from some, most fans and critics seem to be enjoying the latest installment of the long-running series. Considering some of the controversy surrounding the show before it came out, it's good seeing the show be a successful risk for the network.

Marc DeBevoise, the president of CBS Interactive, said that the show has increased the amount of paid subscribers for the service, which is obviously a good thing. "This series has a remarkable creative team and cast who have demonstrated their ability to carry on the Star Trek legacy. We are extremely proud of what they've accomplished and are thrilled to be bringing fans the second season of this tremendous series," said the president.

We're currently six episodes in, with six more to go, and the show continues to impress. Mixing elements from the original series with some of the action from the rebooted trilogy, it has proven to be a good formula for the series. Since it looks like we won't be seeinga fourthfilm in the Abrams-verse, a new season of Discovery should please fans of the franchise.

Star Trek: Discovery is now available to stream on CBS All Access, and new episodes will be available on demand weekly after 8:30 PM ET on Sundays.
