Squirrel Girl Officially Cast For Marvel’s New Warriors

The MCU is an entertainment powerhouse, and a lot of people are scrambling to get characters from the comics to make their jump to the big (or small) screen. Marvel and Freeform are teaming up to make a New Warriors series, and the lead role of fan-favorite Squirrel Girl has officially been cast.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Milana Vayntrub (This is Us, Silicon Valley) will be playing the role of New Warriors leader Doreen Green a.k.a. Squirrel Girl. She'll be joined by a cast which includes Derek Thaler (Mister Immortal), Kate Comer (Debrii), Matthew Moy (Microbe), Jeremy Tardy (Night Thrasher), and Calum Worthy (Speedball).

By the looks of it, New Warriors is going to be the first Marvel series that will have an emphasis on comedy, and it will probably follow the young heroes as they try to make their place in the world of the MCU. Let's just hope the series has better writers than the ones who made (the now cancelled) Powerless for DC.

As of now, I really can't tell where the series will go. It's true that the New Warriors aren't as popular as the Avengers, but their comic antics have led to dark events like Marvel Civil War and the transformation of Speedball into the dark hero, Penance.

New Warriors is expected to start shooting in Atlanta soon, and the series is expected to premiere sometime next year.
