Square Enix Announcing A New Tomb Raider Game

The Tomb Raider movie starring Alicia Vikander is set for a release next year, and it only makes sense that Square Enix would grab the opportunity for some cross promotion. News has it that a new Tomb Raider game is in the works, and it will be yet another "defining adventure" for Lara Croft.

Check it out:

With the movie set to release March of next year, I'm curious just how far the development of this game already is. I would hate for it to turn out like the first Star Wars Battlefront game which was rushed in order to release close to The Force Awakens. I'm fine waiting for this game to come out way after the Tomb Raider film releases.

Back in 2013, Lara Croft was given a full reboot by Square Enix, and the success of that game is what led to the development of the movie four years later. Knowing the way video game movies end up, this could very well be another mess, but with all the video game movie adaptations Hollywood is developing, they're bound to hit the jackpot one day.

Here's the movie synopsis:

Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished years earlier. Hoping to solve the mystery of her father's disappearance, Croft embarks on a perilous journey to his last-known destination -- a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. The stakes couldn't be higher as Lara must rely on her sharp mind, blind faith and stubborn spirit to venture into the unknown.

No release date has been announced for the upcoming Tomb Raider game, but you can catch the movie in theaters March 16, 2018.
