Spider-Man PS4: Shocker Gets a Shocking Redesign

It looks like redesigns are going to be a huge part of Insomniac's Spider-Man game, often called Spider-Man PS4 by the fans. We've already seen Peter Parker's new costume, with a new white spider emblem and a number of gadgets that look really fun to use. Now, we get to look at one of Spidey's classic villains get a makeover.

New screenshots of the game revealed by The Telegraph showed off a new design for Spidey foe, The Shocker, aka Herman Schultz. Seeing Shocker in a Spider-Man game is about as shocking as having Batman fight The Joker but the character's new redesign does make him look more intimidating than he normally does.

According to Insomniac, they wanted to give Herman a more functional-looking costume that would make him a more threatening villain for Spidey to take on. The villain's colors are kept of course but the villain's unitard has been upgraded to some sleek-looking armor and we can only assume that he will have some upgrades to his shock gloves.

Here's what Insomniac had to say about the redesign:

"In the comic books he wears a red unitard onesie with a deep v-neck which even if we'd tried to translate one-to-one in the game wouldn't have worked. We tried to make it more functional, which is why we armoured him up. We kept the yellow and the red and that quilted fabric, but we wanted to modernise it."

He might not be the most fearsome Spider-Man foe but it is good seeing Shocker in this game. Like previous titles, he probably won't be much of a match for Spidey but it should be a fun encounter nonetheless.

Spider-Man PS4 comes out on September 7.
