Spawn Reboot Finally Nabs Marvel’s Hawkeye Star Jeremy Renner For Its Lead Role

It's final. Avengers 4 star Jeremy Renner has finally been cast as the human lead in comic book writer Todd MacFarlane's upcoming Spawn reboot.

A week ago, word came out that Marvel's Hawkeye actor was n talks to join the Spawn reboot as Twitch Williams, one of two NYPD homicide detectives who come investigating Spawn. Now, according to Deadline, Renner's finally nabbed the role, becoming the human lead of the highly anticipated comic book movie.

McFarlane just recently wrote a statement explaining his casting choices, saying that he was more than happy to land both Jamie Fox and Renner for his upcoming Spawn reboot. Here's what the comic-book-writer-turned-director wrote in the statement:

"As a first time director, I wanted to surround myself with the most talent and the most skilled people I can on all fronts. I was lucky enough to land Jason Blum and then Jamie Foxx, and I knew the person on screen the most is this police officer, Twitch Williams. We needed as strong a person as possible because he will be the face of the film. I took my naïve Hollywood approach again, and said let's start at the top and work down. Jeremy was at the top. I'm a huge fan of his. The character doesn't need to be a bodybuilder or GQ handsome. I was looking for somebody who's a person you've met before; I needed someone who can pull off the grief of an average human being. I've seen Jeremy do that in more than a few of his movies. He was at the top of my list, just like Jamie."

Of course, it doesn't come as a surprise that Renner would be selected for the role. Sure, Hawkeye might have missed out on all the action in Avengers: Infinity War, but Renner has had a long history with comic book movies and he's done pretty great in action films like Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation, and of course, Fallout.

For those who aren't familiar with the character, Twitch starts off as a mild-mannered police detective, however, as the comics go on the character proves to be both intelligent and skilled. He and his partner Sam are some of the first to encounter Spawn, and the two have to make difficult decisions whether to bring down or help the creature of Hellspawn.

Spawn doesn't have a release date just yet but we'll let everyone know as soon as we get word.
