Spanish Reporter Confuses Star Wars Rebel Alliance Logo With Al Qaeda in Live Broadcast

A Spanish news reporter has apologized after using a Star Wars logo to represent Al-Qaeda during the TVE's morning news show La Mañana on Monday.

Jota Abril was reporting about France's missile strikes on the Syrian stronghold of Raqqa in the sake of the Paris terror attacks, when the wrong logo appeared on the screen behind him. It was the logo of the Rebel Alliance, the resistance that fights Darth Vader in the classic trilogy

Abril apologized "if he had offended anyone" after the embarrassing mistake, broadcast to millions of households across Spain.

His tweet was translated as: "This morning I confused a logo in an explanation during the programme."

"My own fault. I am sorry if it offended anyone."

But it gets worse because the logo TVE used for Al Qaeda is a "record label" on Facebook called "Alqaeda'Inc" The confusion probably came from the fact a record label called Alqaeda Inc uses the Rebel Alliance symbol with Islamic style writing underneath for its logo.

The mistake was reminiscent of a similar broadcasting error earlier this year, when CNN confused a flag decorated with sex toys for an ISIS banner at London's Gay Pride festival.
