Sonic the Hedgehog Movie: Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnick will be Live-Action

We've known for a while that a Sonic the Hedgehog movie was in the works, but what we didn't know was that the movie was going to be a mix of live-action and CG pretty much like the first Smurfs film. As per Jim Carrey, his character is going to live-action in the film.

Talking to Deadline, Carrey confirms that his character Dr. ‘Eggman' Robotnick will be live-action in the movie. I don't really know what he'll end up looking like in the film, but it takes one animated actor to pull off a villain to animated protagonists.

Carrey will be joining Tika Sumpter (Ride Along) who is said to be playing the lead—who is also a live-action character as well.

We don't really know what to expect of the film as of late. We know that Deadpool director Tim Miller is attached as an executive producer, but the director is newcomer Jeff Fowler.

Any seasoned movie fan knows that films based on video games don't always turn out well. Just look at the adaptations for Warcraft, Tomb Raider, and Assassin's Creed. Then again, there's no stopping Hollywood from trying to mine gold out of franchises that already have faithful followings.

Sonic the Hedgehog is slated for a release on Nov. 15, 2019.
