Solo Has The Lowest Second Weekend Performance Out Of Any Star Wars Film Since The Prequels

It looks like Solo: A Star Wars Story really is falling into a pit at the box office. Though second projections for Solo's second week in cinemas suggested that the film would do better after disappointing fans with its poor box office performance during the weekend, Solo has now reached levels lower than any of the Star Wars prequels.

According to Box Office Mojo, Lucasfilm's latest Star Wars spinoff suffered a steep decline of 66 percent during its second weekend at the box office. During its second week run, Solo brought in a meager $29 million from less than 5,000 locations. That's a whole lot lower than any of the Star Wars films that Disney's produced. It's also lower than any of the prequel films during their second weekends in cinemas.

There's a whole lot of concern that Solo might not even be able to reach more than $200 million at the domestic box office with its poor performance. If so, the film might not even be able to break even with its cost of production. According to reports that popped up during the film's production, Solo took more than $250 million to make after Disney decided to replace original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller with Ron Howard. If the $250 million budget is true, Solo would have been one of the most expensive Star Wars films to make, with barely anything to show in return.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is currently screening in cinemas.
